antoniusberg.com - rio dulce and livingston
Bussed straight from Monte Rico to the Rio Dulce... saw both oceans within a couple days. We stayed at Hotel Backpackers (which is run by people from Casa Guatemala) for a night and visited Casa Guatemala, which is a fairly large orphanage (about 200 kids). After that, we took a lancha (motorboat) up the river and got an excellent tour of life on the rio dulce. The river hits the caribbean at a town called Livingston, which is a very cool, very jamaican-style town. Almost everyone is black, but speaks spanish. Lots of drumming, dredlocks and bob marley posters. Unfortunately, we didn't really take any pictures there...
